Car Washes are very capital intensive and have a steep and expensive learning curve, which is why you don’t see a lot of private car washes around. Depending on location, a new build today including land is anywhere between 12 to 15 million dollars and you can easily go beyond that. You also need to have enough capital available to cover the cost of operations until it becomes cash flow positive.

Car washes typically need about one acre of land preferably in a rectangular in shape which needs to be zoned for a car wash. Banks and other financial institutions will finance 40 to 50 % of a project but this can vary depending on the strength and relationship with the borrower.
